July, 2011 Windsor Land Trust has assisted the State of CT in expanding Matianuck State Dunes Preserve AGAIN! We were able to facilitate the use of specially designated State funds to add the “missing” Southwest corner to the park.
Sept. 7, 2010 Windsor Town Meeting, by unanimous decision, has approved the purchase of an important parcel on Pigeon Hill Road. The parcel will be purchased with money from the Open Space Fund. This represents an important step towards the move to preserve critical parts of the Windsor environmental infrastructure. Credit to all of the Town employees who worked hard to determine that this land was worthy of inclusion in official Open Space. Thanks also to all of the volunteers on the Commissions & Trusts who supported this goal.
April 22, 2010 Windsor observed Earth Day with a ceremony that celebrated a true gain for the environment. Six acres was added to Matianuck Dunes State Preserve. The parcel was reclaimed from its former uses, as storage for construction equipment and as the site of a state-owned storage building. The Windsor Land Trust worked in cooperation with The Conservation Commission and The Town of Windsor to achieve the transfer of land from State Dept of Public Works to the State Dept of Environmental Protection.
June 11, 2008 Great news! Congress has renewed the federal tax break on donation of land. In fact, they have even extended the provisions that allow a carry-forward of deductions. Now a non-farmer can deduct up to 50% of their Adjusted Gross Income per year, and farmers 100%! Both can carry-forward for up to 15 years! This is awesome news for open space advocates across the country.
May17, 2008 Shad Derby booth a success! Thanks to all who stopped by the WLT / Conservation Commission / Farmington River booth. We heard a lot about the need to preserve open space, and the alarming rate at which CT open space is disappearing.

December, 2007 The Windsor Planning & Zoning Commission Planning and Zoning Commission approved the proposed changes to Chapters 4 & 5 of The Plan of Conservation and Development, now The 2007 Open Space and Agricultural Preservation Plan. These critical changes and additions ensure that we have a plan for open space and agricultural preservation that everyone in town can work with. A solid plan enables homeowners, business, and developers to plan for intelligent ways to grow Windsor, while preserving the character we all cherish.
November 20, 2007 The Windsor Planning & Zoning Commission held a special meeting to review the draft of The 2007 Open Space and Agricultural Preservation Plan. This is a revision of Chapters 4 & 5 of the current plan.
October 1, 2007 The Windsor Town Council unanimously approved adding $400,000 to the Town Open Space Fund. This represents a major step forward in the progress of preserving the character of Windsor. Thanks go out to the entire council for their courage and vision!
October 1, 2007 The Windsor Town Council endorsed the proposed changes to Chapters 4 & 5 of The Plan of Conservation and Development. The vote was unanimous. Thanks again go out to the entire council.
September 17, 2007 The Windsor Town Council heard a presentation by Eric Barz, Town Planner, concerning the proposed changes to Chapters 4 & 5 of The Plan of Conservation and Development. Support was universal on the Council.
